The magnificent Muiderslot castle seemes to have come down from the pages of the medieval novel. Its mighty walls and loopholes carry you away to the fabulous atmosphere of the 11th century. Muiderslot, as a classical medieval castle it is, has a drawbridge leading to its gates and is surrounded by a deep moat.
Over centuries, this solid castle hasn’t changed too much, but in fact,it’s pretty old. Earl Floris built it in 1280 near the mouth of the Fetht River to start collectingfees from merchants coming to Utrecht. The locals have a legend saying the restless soul of the brutally murdered count still dwells in Muiderslot.
Later, this Gothic castle was being passed from one owner to another. Prosperity came toMuiderslot at the time when it was managed by poet Peter Hoft.
By the end of the 19th century, Muiderslothad been restored and transferred to the state as a historical museum. The interior of the castle and its picturesque surroundings perfectly reflect the life of medieval times and the Renaissance.
For the young visitors, the museum has special entertaining games that will turn them into fairy-tale heroes, bravely battling fictional enemies and dragons.
While the children are playing, you will have the opportunity to enjoy an impressive collection of rare antique items, antique weapons and valorous knight armor.
If you come to Muiderslot in the warm season, be sure to stroll around the local garden.
During your walk around Muiderslot you will be constantly feeling like a hero of a medieval gothic fairyt tale!
