Did you know that Peter the Great and Joseph Brodsky mastered 14 crafts before leaving their gracious homeland, and that they both died on the same date – January 28?

The visit of the young Russian tsar to Holland in 1697 marked a completely new era in Russian history. The slow process of Russia’s integration into European values began, and that transformationwasn’t completely painless.

Peter did not chose Holland as the first country to visit by accident: firstly, it was undeniably a serious maritime power, with its amazing tolerance and love for everything foreign; secondly, the country already had colossal successes in almost all areas of knowledge from philosophy to cartography.

During thisauthor’s excursion you can learn many things about Peter the Great’s 1st and 2nd visits to the Netherlands, about his friends and associates and about those, sometimes truly ridiculous, situations that they happened to find themselves in.
