Excursion to the medieval castles Vianden and Beaufort (Luxembourg)

The ancient city of Vianden (IX century) is located in the heart of the mountains near the river Urs, surrounded by majestic nature. The feudal castle, dominating the city, was the child of the Orange – Nassau dynasty.

In Vianden you can get up to one of the highest points in Luxembourg and see the mountains of Arden from a bird’s eye view.

The ruins of Beaufort Castle (XI) lie in a quiet valley near a beautiful swan lake.

The castle stands high over the valley, near the similarly named town. According to historians’ estimations, the castle was built in the XI century.

In the XV century, emperor Maximilianbecame the owner of the castlфe, and then, the castle was being passed from one owner to another. Every owner brought his own changes to the fortress.

Therefore, today the castle of Beaufort contains a mixture of several various cultures.
