De Haar castle a fabulous oasis of the Middle Ages in the heart of modern Holland.
A real journey to the wonderful world of antiquity is waiting for you. In Europe, there were only a few castles that have preserved the same ideal image of a medieval fortress. Towers and ramparts, canals, gates and lift bridges.
Originally, the Gothic fortresswas built in the XIV century. At the end of the XIX century, major restoration works were carried out. Medieval appearance was returned not only to the castle itself, but also to the surrounding gardens, the church and the nearby Haarzuylens village.
During the tour you will learn everything about the history of the castle’s architecture, its interior and collections. De Haar rises above a park with large trees, like a real fairy-tale castle, surrounded by old gardens and ponds. As the legend goes, the castle is haunted by the ghost of one of its former owners: knight Conrad, drowned in the moat of his castle.
The park and gardens are covering more than 135 acres of land. The rose garden, the Romanesque garden, ponds and canals, as well as many bridges, romantic alleys and paths are tempting for a long walk or a picnic. Each season here is charming in its own way. The park and gardens offer a wide range of opportunities for outdoor events, both for small groups and for groups of more than 1,000 people.
If you are planning an exclusive event, the park and the castle can be reserved for one or for several days.
