Dinant

The beautiful picturesque city of Dinant is located several dozen kilometers away from the capital of Belgium at the foot of the Ardennes ridge. This is a very secluded city, characterized by a measured rhythm of life.

Dinant once experienced massive destructions, but it wasrestored every time. It only made the city even more beautiful.

In the Middle Ages, metallurgy was booming here. Masters of craftsmade the moderate townglorified throughout Europe.

Leff, the beer now famous all around the world with its amazing taste and aroma, was first cooked in this city in the 13th century. Many tourists come here just to enjoy the magnificent Leffe. The Leffe Abbey is open to visitors, although only in the summer.

Another famous product of Dinant, the extravagant honey gingerbread cookies, require a huge amount of sweet honey.

Dinant is full of interesting buildings and other attractions, despite its small size. The most notorious building of the city is the Citadel. It was built in 1820 to protect Dinant from invaders and overly belligerent neighbors. In the Citadel, there is a military museum with many interesting expositions.

Another noteworthy about the city, is that Adolf Sachslived and worked here. Not many people know that, but it was him who invented saxophone.

Tourists who came to Dinant in August can take part in the bath regatta. According to one local legend, a woman saved herself with a bath during a flood. Since then, city residents annually organize these competitions, which attracts thousands of tourists from all over Europe.
