Mechelen

In Mechelen, the skill of making bells has been well-known for a very long time. And to this day Mechelen is the center of carillon music. The Royal Carillon School is based in this city.

Continuing the musical theme, it is worth mentioning that Mechelen is where the Beethoven family originates.

Mechelen is a very beautiful city and many of its sights are included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The  most significant one is the St. Rombout’s Cathedralwith its 97-meter tower, offering a marvelous view of the city.

Mechelenhas always been recognized as a major cultural center of Europe.

The Royal Tapestry Factory in Mechelen is considered the best in the world,the aristocrats bring their antique paintings for restoration here.

While in Mechelen, you should not miss the opportunity to visit the unique Toy Museum, especially if you came here with children. Its collection is huge, plus, there is also the “Technopolis” entertaining center for kids.

All in all, Mechelen is incredibly charming. Free of crowds, with its beautiful medieval architecture, smiley faces of the citizens, sabbatical markets and, of course, the unforgettable atmosphere!
